YPAC Presents Date Night: Comedy Night

August 25, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

The Yucaipa Performing Arts Center (YPAC) is excited to present Richard Villa, Avra Friedman, and Cari Kabinoff! BYOB and join us on August 25th for a hilarious date night event!

Headliner: Richard Villa

Using stories of his childhood, Richard Villa turned what he thought were basic experiences into autobiographical satirical humor that depict life for Latinos and other minorities in the United States. Amid his newfound talent in improvisation, Richard was accepted to “The Groundlings Theatre Group.”

With his comedy and thorough understanding of his audience, Richard Villa became the first Latino to ever host the renowned Hollywood Improv on Friday nights. His ability to appeal to the audience earned him a special invitation by the U.S. Military to perform for the troops on the “Combat Comedy Tour” which included Iraq, Unit, May, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Djibouti, and Saudi Arabia.

In 2005 Vanguard Cinema released Richard’s 1st DVD, called “Richard Villa: Performing This Way.” Now being hailed as “the leader” for the new generation of Latino Comics, Richard Villa exemplifies dedication to making other people laugh. With his television appearances on Mun2’s Loco Comedy Jam, HBO Latino and Los Angeles based LATV, Richard Villa has turned his talent into animation, becoming a writer and voiceover for MTV’s Latin animation, “Chico y Guapo.”

With all this and more, it is no wonder that in no time, Richard Villa will be as synonymous a household name as pan dulce and champurrado!

Avra Friedman is an LA-based actress, comedian, and writer. Most recently she can be seen in Steven Soderbergh’s newest comedy series, Now Apocalypse, on STARZ, playing the recurring role of Magenta, a very committed but meek and untalented actress. He performs at The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, Ice House, Haha Cafe, and Flappers Comedy Club. He was just invited to compete in The World Series of Comedy competition in Las Vegas.

MC: Luis Villasenor

Luis Villasenor was born February 6, 1983. He was the last-born child to two Mexican parents. He was raised in the streets of South Central Los Angeles, where he tormented his schoolteachers with constant jokes and quick comebacks. That was until the age of twelve, when his family moved to the city of Colton. It was there where he continued his claim as the class clown. Ever since he was a young child, his goal was to attend college and become a math teacher. In the fall of 2001, he achieved one of those goals by attending the University of California, Riverside, where he double majored in liberal studies and mathematics. Once at the university, he realized that wasn’t where he wanted to be. He dropped out after a year and a half at the university and quickly pursued after his next goal; to become a police officer. But he soon decided to steer clear of that goal when he found out that criminals had bigger guns and more rights!

After a short time off, he finally decided to go against his better judgment and try Stand Up Comedy at the World Famous Irvine Improv. After getting off stage for the very first time, it was obvious to him that comedy was what he wanted to do. Since then, Luis has been dazzling audiences with his mixture of his own personal life as well as his observations of daily events. Not even his dear sweet mother is safe from the quick wit that this young comic possesses. There is simply no subject that this comedian will not poke fun at from Asian midgets to his cold-blooded ex-girlfriends!

In his short time in comedy he has had the opportunity to open up for such acts as Jeff Garcia, Manny Maldonado, Shawn Wayans, Anjelah Johnson, he is also a feature act on the Latino Laugh Off Tour presented by Marroquin Concerts. In 2008 he became the youngest comedian to be signed by Marroquin Concerts and has since continued to take on the nation as he tours nationwide. Don’t miss this young up and coming comedian when he hits your town!
